Maasai Wedding Necklace #1


The Maasai who live in southern Kenya and northern Tanzania are well known for adorning themselves in intricately beaded  jewellery from head to toe. Beadwork has been an  important part of the Maasai culture for many years, their work is not only beautiful but also holds important cultural significance. This is a traditional wedding necklace worn by a Maasai woman on her wedding day, each bead is individually attached to a piece of cow hide and cowry shells hang at the end of each beaded strand. A necklace this size would take around one month to make.

Measures 34cm x 41cm,  beads hang an extra 46cm.
